About Career Mark

The Career Mark Primary Certificate to show a school’s initial commitment to career related learning for their learners, and can lead to the Career Mark Primary Award.

Career learning raises aspirations and broadens horizons. Career learning motivates
and engages learners. The Certificate evidences that you inspire learners from early years to have dreams for their future and develop their knowledge and skills for adulthood and work. 

Help your learners to:

• Try new things and experiences to learn and grow
• Helping them find what suits them
• Think about what they want to do and how to get there
• Imagine all the exciting things they could be and do
• Learn how to work hard and still have fun
• Understand how their learning fits into the wider world.

The Certificate enables career professionals to recognise and reward a primary school’s initial career programme and supports its development.

The Certificate requires a school to achieve 10 basic criteria (see Criteria tab) and links to the six learning areas of the CDI.

Receive a Career Mark Primary Certificate to display to your community showing the school’s commitment to their learners’ futures in the world.

Criteria to be evidenced to achieve the Certificate

Part 1

1. Named career contact
2. Career related learning outcomes
3. Career event/s
4. Inspirational career speakers
5. Everywhere is a workplace
6. Subject links to careers and skills.
7. Parents/carers informed of career related learning
8. Inputs of routes and pathways  
9. Awareness of local employment opportunities
10. Careers information on school website

The named career contact will provide evidence of the ten criteria to a Career Mark Primary Champion who will first review it and then arrange a 2hr online career conversation with relevant staff and learners.

Part 2

A two hour online conversation with a small sample of staff and learners about career related learning including;

• time with the named career contact and a member of the school management team
• time with members of support staff
• time with learners from two identified year groups

Part 3

The school will receive verified written feedback 10 working days after the online meeting including.

• A summary of the conversations and evidence illustrating career learning.
• A maximum of three development priorities for the school’s career programme.
• A Career Mark Primary Certificate to display, valid for two years from the conversation

Pay 50% at sign up and 50% on submission of evidence.
