West Lindsey Project

In partnership with West Lindsey District Council we are really pleased to be able to provide West Lindsey parents and families with free information sessions to help children and teens in the area to prepare for their future career. 

The information sessions are fun and practical for parents and families and are packed with free resources and support.  They are delivered by our expert and experienced Career Development Practitioners to help parents and families to have career conversations with children and teens to help them feel happy, confident and excited about their future. 

There are two information sessions in October and parents and families can choose to attend the Gainsborough events or Market Rasen events with free refreshments and resources available. 

We are holding separate sessions for parents and families of primary aged children (yes you are reading that right!) and secondary aged young people.  It is so important to help children think positively about the future from a young age and we help you gain the knowledge and skills to help them to do so. 

Our sessions for secondary aged young people still give all the basic knowledge and information, but also provide more practical support to help prepare for next steps after school etc.

Start Small and Dream Big!

Workshop 1: Why Talk Careers at Primary Age?

This workshop will help parents and families to understand the importance of career learning at primary age. It will help parents and families to gain knowledge and resources to start career conversations with primary aged children.

By the end of this workshop you will:

  • understand how talking about jobs early helps children see more future possibilities and feel excited about what they can become
  • learn how career goals can boost children’s interest and success across all school subjects
  • understand that a career is more than a job—it includes learning, experiences, choices, skills, and goals. It’s also shaped by beliefs, growth, and the qualifications we gain
  • know how to start career conversations with primary aged children to build on areas of strength and help them to feel positive about themselves

Workshop 2: Into the Future: Helping your child to be the best they can be!

This workshop will provide parents and families with the knowledge and resources to help to support primary aged children with their career journey.

By the end of this workshop you will:

  • understand learning pathways and transition stages to be able to support your child with decision making skills
  • understand the potential barriers and solutions for your child to achieve their dreams
  • understand that everywhere is workplace and begin to think about work opportunities in the local area
  • understand the impact of AI and technology on future job trends

Talking Careers with your Teen

Workshop 1: Understanding Career Pathways and Decisions

This workshop will provide parents and families with knowledge and resources to support teens with career decision making skills and suitable learning pathways.

By the end of this workshop you will:

  • understand that a career is more than a job—it includes learning, experiences, choices, skills, and goals. It’s also shaped by beliefs, growth, and the qualifications we gain
  • understand the potential barriers and solutions for your teen to achieve their goals
  • be able to support your teen with decision making skills and have knowledge of learning pathways at age 16+ and age 18+
  • understand the local labour market and how this can inform career decisions and future job trends

Workshop 2:  Future Ready: Supporting Your Teen with Careers, Applications and Work Experience

This workshop will help parents and families to prepare teens to find and apply for opportunities. It will help parents and families to start career conversations using resources to identify their teens skills and to set targets and goals.

By the end of this workshop you will:

  • understand the concept of networking and the value of work experiences and broader activities outside of school
  • have access to resources to support your child to record their achievements and career learning
  • have knowledge of how to start career conversations with your teen using resources to help them to identify their skills and to set targets and goals
  • be prepared to support your teen with applications for their next steps
