Young People and work: a scathing report on the present, an ironic disregard of the past, with the future (or recommendations) yet to be determined

The Young People and Work report was published on 28th May 2026 and made mainstream headlines concerning the rising numbers of young people who are Not in Education, Employment or Training (NEET).  The report was created by Alan Milburn with 208 pages of evidence, data, and references.  

Here John Ambrose, experienced Guidance Practitioner and Director of Complete-Careers, summarises the report to just 7 pages for busy career professionals.  The summary also highlights Alan Milburn’s previous involvement with NEET and young people and the unintended devasting effect it had on careers last time around.
