‘Outstanding Careers Provision: Managing the Costs’

Conference theme:

Careers education and guidance can have a significant impact on a learners’ mental health and wellbeing.  Good provision however presents challenges.  This conference will help careers leaders and guidance professionals to identify policy and research insights highlighting how careers should be better supported and financed.  The conference will focus on support for the career leader/practitioner by promoting good mental health considering key areas such as:  

• Time allocation: is it enough?
• How and when to say no
• Delegating down and up

The current statutory guidance for schools and colleges on careers (Jan 23) references ‘protected time’ for Careers Leaders, as well as suggested adequate length for guidance interviews, but how often do both become squeezed?  There is now significant evidence to suggest that careers education and guidance is significantly  underfunded. The conference will help Careers Leaders and Practitioners to appreciate their worth and the limitations of their capacity within their budget, resources and qualifications/experience  

The conference will consider key recent career related policy and practice with a focus on what career leaders and practitioner realistically can do.  The conference will have keynote contributions from:

• Edward Hollamby: a leading mental health and wellbeing speaker
• John Ambrose: Director of Complete Careers and board member of CDI and Careers England.

No ‘Careers professionals an island’. Hear simple, effective and practical methods to help you influence change or share the workload in your organisation and protect the most valuable resource – you!

These include:

• A Multi Academy Trust’s approach to sharing the responsibility for Careers Leadership;
• Career leaders and practitioners speaking about their experiences of influencing change in their organisation;
• How established processes can influence organisational change.

The conference will run remotely through Zoom, a user-friendly, effective platform. There will be opportunities for interaction and to post questions to speakers, as well as regular screen breaks.
