‘Careers Leadership – Raising the Quality Assurance Bar’

12th October 2022

Conference Theme:

Careers Leadership – Raising the Quality Assurance Bar’

As we enter a new academic year there is updated statutory guidance for careers (Careers guidance and access for education and training providers, September 2022) Careers statutory guidance (publishing.service.gov.uk) to work with.

The guidance has 30 ‘must’ references within it however most of these were in the previous guidance with the main addition relating to extending the careers guidance provision to year 7. We expect further updates to the statutory guidance later this year, but for now Career Leaders can consolidate their careers programme and strive to ‘raise the quality assurance bar’ to ensure all learners’ career planning needs are met.

This no cost conference will provide Career Leaders with a summary of the updated expectations. It will raise awareness of existing quality assurance mechanisms enabling Career Leaders to clearly communicate their programme’s intent, plan the implementation and review the overall impact.  The conference will consider all career related national policy and practice with a focus on the individual learner with contributions on:

  • The Careers and Enterprise Company – new and existing support mechanisms to make progress towards achieving the Gatsby Benchmarks
  • The Career Development Institute – How the Career Development Framework supports programme intent based on intended learner outcomes
  • The Quality in Careers Standard – ‘strongly recommended’ by DfE for schools and colleges to ‘support the development of their careers programme’
  • Ofsted’s Education Inspection handbook and staff handbook

At the conference workshops will introduce you to free and costed support services from Complete-Careers LLP to help Career Leaders.

These include:

  • The Complete-Careers Profiling Quiz (free resource for learners 14 plus as well as 3 free lesson plans and supporting materials)
  • The Level 6 Career Development Apprenticeship (free for most schools and colleges through the apprenticeship levy system)
  • The Quality in Careers Standard (Costed – though conference attenders will be eligible to sign-up for a free webinar support programme on how to achieve the standard using the Complete-Careers Career Mark approach).

The conference will run remotely through Zoom, a user-friendly, effective platform. There will be opportunities for interaction and to post questions to speakers, as well as regular screen breaks.
