Complete-Careers Conference:

‘Future Proofing Career Development’

Wednesday 8th May 2024

9.30am -1.00pm

Conference theme:

Many of us are still adjusting to advancements introduced as part of the 4th Industrial Revolution. We now live in a world of mass data, connectivity through the ‘Internet of Things’ and more machine learning/artificial intelligence. The pace continues to increase, so much so that we are already racing towards the 5th Industrial Revolution of human-robot collaboration, ‘human-centeredness’ and global sustainability.

The conference will consider key, recent career related research, policy and practice with a focus on what career leaders and practitioners can do to keep up and support their learners to do so! The conference will have keynote contributions from:

  • Dr Deirdre Hughes OBE – an experienced career specialist with a keen interest in artificial intelligence
  • David Morgan, Chief Executive Officer, Career Development Institute – part of the Skills Commission’s Skills 2030 – ‘Career development as an enabler of the future skills system’.

  • Institute of Environmental Management and Assessment – Green careers and green skills.

The speakers will introduce all the ‘hot topics’ effecting careers and the world of work. The audience for the conference is Careers Leaders/Career Professionals working in education and speakers will help attendees to make sense of global developments in the context of the careers programme, the profession and most importantly, the learner.

The following inputs will also help Careers Leaders/Career Professionals to reflect on their work:

  • John Ambrose: Director of Complete Careers and board member of CDI and Careers England – how can we ‘future proof’ career development?
  • Claire Seeley – Reed Recruitment – using AI to prepare learners for the world of work.

With much uncertainty in 2024 to including DfE’s Strategic Action Plan for Careers and the possibility of a change of government, this conference will focus on the ‘bigger picture’ and how we can adequately prepare learners for the future.

The conference will run remotely through Zoom, a user-friendly, effective platform. There will be opportunities for interaction and to post questions to speakers, as well as regular screen breaks.
