‘Building Resilience to Maximise Careers Guidance'

28th April 2022

Conference Theme:

‘Personal Guidance’ has been an integral part of the careers agenda in schools and colleges now since the Careers Strategy was launched in December 2017.  It supports the legal duty ‘to provide independent careers guidance to all 12- to- 18-year-olds and students aged up to 25 with an education, health and care plan’.

Schools and colleges in England make sufficiency judgements based on the guidance for Gatsby Benchmark 8, Compass, their own resources, and the needs of their learners.  Schools and Colleges need to consider broader questions to maximise the impact of Personal Guidance, such as:

  • How do we diagnose learner need for personal guidance?
  • which learners do we prioritise for personal guidance?
  • Are we providing equality of access or equality of personal guidance encounters/does one size fit all?
  • Do learners, staff, parents and even guidance practitioners truly understand what modern day personal guidance is?
  • Are we providing a holistic careers education programme to enable learners to develop their knowledge, skills, and attitudes to be able to maximise Personal Guidance?

This no cost conference will provide Careers Leaders, Coordinators and Programme Supporters with the opportunity to reflect on national policy and their organisations careers provision helping them identify potential areas for continuous improvement.   The conference will present policy and best practice focussing on the impact for the individual learner.

Conference speakers will explore the conference theme from a practical perspective of how learning providers can approach personal guidance and focus on models emerging that improve quality, exposure, and overall impact.

At the conference we will launch our new free online careers personality profiling tool for learners key stage 4 and upwards. The profiling tool comes complete with supporting delivery resources for you to help learners find out more about their personality and how it links to potential careers.

The conference will run remotely through Zoom, a user-friendly, effective platform, with opportunities for interaction and to post questions to all speakers as well as regular screen breaks.
